The reason we need to know the life and deeds of Yehoshua is because he lived the life prophesied in the Bible. As recorded in the Bible, Yehoshua was conceived of a virgin by the Holy Spirit of God. And it was not by chance that he was born in a stable in Bethlehem, but because of biblical prophecy. The prophet Isaiah prophesied of Yehoshua's birth 700 years before he was born and named him Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14)

And the reason Yehoshua was born in Bethlehem was because it was written in Micah that he would be born in Bethlehem. So the Jews already knew that Christ would be born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:2)

King Herod wanted to kill Yehoshua because he feared that his kingship would be threatened by the coming of Christ. However, Joshua's father, Joseph, was told by an angel to flee to Egypt. When King Herod eventually learned that Yehoshua had escaped, he killed all the male children under the age of two to fulfill the prophecy of Moses. When Moses was born, Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, ordered the child to be killed as soon as he was born. Moses was able to escape the king and hide in an Egyptian palace, saving his life. (Matthew 2:16 / Exodus 2:1-10)

When Joseph heard that King Herod had died, he wanted to go to Israel, but when he heard that Herod's son would be his successor, he was afraid and settled in a town called Nazareth in Galilee, in order to fulfill a biblical prophecy that Galilee would be glorified. Before Yehoshua was baptized by John, John the Baptist had started a civic movement calling for repentance, so Yehoshua testified that John the Baptist was Elijah who prepared the way of the Lord.

After being baptized by John, Yehoshua was led into the wilderness, where he fasted for 40 days and was tempted by the devil. But Yehoshua overcame the devil's temptation with the word of God written in the Bible (Matthew 4:1). After being tempted by the devil, he heard that John the Baptist had been arrested and put in prison. So Yehoshua went to Galilee. And he lived at the foot of Zebulun and Naphtali. This was also to fulfill the prophecies of the Bible. (Matthew 4:12)

[Isaiah 9:1~2] Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

As he walked along the Sea of Galilee, he met Peter the fisherman and his brother Andrew and made disciples of them. He also made disciples of James and his brother John near him. As he traveled throughout Galilee, he preached the gospel of the kingdom of heaven in many synagogues. And he healed the sick, the paralyzed, and the demon-possessed. (Matthew 4:23 / Matthew 5-7)

Then he went into many villages and healed many people, and he made Matthew, a tax collector, his disciple, and he gave his twelve disciples power to heal diseases and cast out demons, so that they might preach the gospel of the kingdom of God. (Matthew 10:1/Matthew 9:9)

When the towns he favored with power did not repent, Joshua rebuked them and warned them that they would be destroyed on the day of judgment (Matthew 11:20-24) We can see that when God performs a healing or a blessing, there is a deeper purpose to bring about repentance.

Yehoshua had predicted through Jonah's prophecy that he would rise from the dead on the third day, and he said that this was the sign of the Christ.(Matthew 12:39) After that, Jesus spoke in many parables, because he wanted to hide the secrets of the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 13). At that time, King Herod cut off the head of John the Baptist and gave it to the daughter of Herodias. The reason for killing John was that King Herod accused Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, of committing adultery and obtaining her as a concubine (Matthew 14:1-12).

Later, when he saw that his followers were starving, he fed 5,000 people with five barley loaves and two fish. Later, he fed 4,000 people with two fish and seven barley loaves. (Matthew 14:13-21/Matthew 15:32-37) Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, walked on water, changed into divine clothes on the Mount of Transfiguration, and was with Moses and Elijah. (Matthew 14:22-33/Matthew 17:1-13)

As Jerusalem drew near, Yehoshua told his disciples that he would die and rise again on the third day. (Matt. 17:22/Matt. 20:17) The disciples were very sad when they heard this. (Matt. 17:22/Matt. 20:17) Thus, most of Yehoshua's public life took place outside of Jerusalem. Joshua arrived in Bethany six days before Passover and entered Jerusalem two days later, on January 10. That day, by the way, coincided with the day the Jews were choosing their Passover lamb. This happened because Yehoshua came as a prophecy of the Passover lamb. (John 12:1/John 12:12)

[Exodus 12:1~11] Some time later the LORD said to Moses and Aaron: This month h) is to be the first month of the year for you. Tell the people of Israel that (on the tenth day) of this month the head of each family must choose a lamb or a young goat for his family to eat...11. This is the Passover Festival in honor of me, your LORD.

Yehoshua entered Jerusalem on January 10, fulfilling the prophecy of the Passover lamb. Thousands of people shouted, "Hosanna to him who has come as David," praising him as king of Israel. (Matthew 21:9)

Then Yehoshua went into the temple and drove out the people who were buying and selling, overturned the shelves of merchandise, and was angry with the temple of God, which had become a den of robbers. (Matthew 21:12)

After that he went up to the temple every day until the Passover; and he rebuked the chief priests and the Jews for their evil deeds, and told them to repent. (Matthew 23)

Yehoshua told his disciples that he would be crucified on Passover, and the chief priests and elders discussed killing him before the Passover meal (Matthew 26:1-5). That evening, a woman named Mary anointed Yehoshua's head with perfume, which was for his burial. (Matthew 26:6)

Judas then received 30 pieces of silver from the chief priests for handing over Yehoshua, and on the evening before the Passover meal, Yehoshua and the disciples had the Last Supper in Mark's upper room (Matt. 26:17ff). In the middle of the night, Judas went out to sell Yehoshua first, but the rest of the disciples understood that Judas had gone out to buy items for the Passover meal (John 13:29).

After the supper, Yehoshua prayed to God in the Garden of Gethsemane, and when soldiers showed up to arrest him, the disciples fled. Peter cursed and denied Yehoshua three times until the cock crows. (Matthew 26:47-75)

Yehoshua was sentenced to death by Pilate the morning after his arrest and crucified at 3 p.m. The time of his death, however, coincided with the time the Jews were slaughtering the Passover lamb. The chief priests and Jews who had gathered until the time of his crucifixion mocked Yehoshua. (Matthew 27:41-42)

When Yehoshua was dead, they tried to break his legs as they had done to the two robbers, but the Passover lamb refused to break his legs to fulfill the prophecy of not breaking his bones. And the soldier pierced Joshua's side with his spear to confirm that he was dead. (John 19:31/Numbers 9:12)

After Yehoshua's death, the Jews hurried back to eat the Passover feast. Joseph of Arimathea took Joshua's body and placed it in a tomb that had never been buried. The next morning the chief priests went to Pilate and asked him to strengthen the guards and to block the tomb with a large stone so that Yehoshua's disciples would not be able to open it, lest they steal the body. So Pilate did just that. (Matthew 27:62)

Before sunrise on Sunday, Yehoshua rose from the dead, just as he had said, and appeared to his disciples; but some of them doubted. (Matthew 28:17) When the chief priests learned that Yehoshua had risen, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers and spread the rumor that the disciples had stolen Yehoshua's body. This news spread throughout Judea. (Matthew 27:15)

For 40 days after his resurrection, Yehoshua spoke to his disciples about the kingdom of God and ate meals with them. Then, 40 days after his resurrection, Yehoshua ascended into heaven in the presence of 500 disciples. The ascended Yehoshua came to the body of believers through the Holy Spirit on the Jewish feast of Pentecost, thus fulfilling Immanuel's promise that God would dwell with his people (1 Corinthians 15:6/Acts 16:6-7). After the Ascension, the disciples gathered together to fill the position of one of the apostles left vacant by the betrayal of Judas. The reason was to witness to the resurrection of Yehoshua.

[Acts 1:21~22] So we need someone else to help us tell others that Jesus has been raised from death. He must also be one of the men who was with us from the very beginning. He must have been with us from the time the Lord Jesus was baptized by John until the day he was taken to heaven.

Thus Yehoshua was born according to Old Testament prophecy, and he acted according to that prophecy. He was also sacrificed as the Passover lamb, paying the price for all our sins on the cross. He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, and crushed for our transgressions, but like a child we did not recognize the love of Joshua. (Isaiah 53)

The reason Yehoshua was able to minister to so many people was because they saw the power of God and wanted to repent. But many people fail to repent of their sins, looking for signs and wonders rather than God's word to repent. (Matthew 11:20-24)

Yehoshua's ability to heal and cast out demons was only a means to achieve repentance, but today's church is more focused on healing and casting out demons than repentance. Therefore, true believers in God must carefully follow in Yehoshua's footsteps and realize what God wants from us.
