Chapter 13 What is worship in spirit and truth?

God's people must worship in spirit and truth. In the Old Testament, sacrificial animals were sacrificed in temple buildings, whereas in the New Testament, worship was required. To understand what worship is, we must first study the sacrifice of the forgiveness of sins offered to God in the Old Testament. The Bible is divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament, and the Old Testament is a basic study for understanding the New Testament. Therefore, if we do not understand the Old Testament, we cannot know the true meaning of the worship that was completed in the New Testament era. All sacrifices to God are made in the temple. Therefore, even in the New Testament era, we must worship in the temple.

The purpose of offering sacrifices (worship) to God is to receive the forgiveness of sins. Looking at the temple system in the Old Testament times, God resided in the Most Holy in the temple and granted the forgiveness of sins to the people. But if a sinner recklessly approached God, he was put to death. Therefore, the sacrifices offered in the Old Testament era are the rules for approaching God. In the temple system, the high priest could approach God once a year, and that day was the Day of Atonement. According to the ordinance of the Day of Atonement, the high priest entered the Most Holy of God and temporarily transferred the sins of the people in the temple to the Most Holy. For a while the sin was transferred to the Most Holy, and then again to the goats. And the goat was sent to the devil Azazel. However, since these sacrifices cannot receive complete forgiveness of sins, Yehoshua came and sacrificed himself on the cross and offered an eternal sacrifice once and for all.

The earthly temple that Moses built is a model and shadow of the heavenly temple, and the heavenly temple that the Bible testifies is Yehoshua. Therefore, all the work done in the earthly temple shows what Yehoshua, the reality of the heavenly temple, will accomplish. There were animals sacrificed for the sins of the people in the temple on earth, and this prophesied of Yehoshua who came as the reality of the sacrificial beast. And the high priest who went to the Most Holy once a year and offered a sin offering also showed what Yehoshua would accomplish.

[Hebrews 9:11~12] Christ came as the high priest of the good things that are now here. He also went into a much better tent that wasn't made by humans and that doesn't belong to this world. Then Christ went once for all into the most holy place and freed us from sin forever. He did this by offering his own blood instead of the blood of goats and bulls.

Yehoshua, the substance of the sacrificial lamb, was sacrificed on the cross, resurrected and ascended to heaven, fulfilling the prophecy that the high priest would enter the Most Holy. If you look at the temple on earth, the ark of the covenant, the throne of God, is located in the Most Holy. But it was created as a type and shadow of the heavenly throne, and the throne of God means heaven.

[Isaiah 66:1] This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?

As such, Yehoshua's ascension was a fulfillment of the prophecy that the high priest of the earthly temple would enter the Most Holy. Also, the high priest entered the Holy of Holies once a year and imputed the sins of the temple to the goats. And he sent the goat to a demon named Azazel who lived in the wilderness. However, this is the shadow of the prophecy that Yehoshua will cast Satan from heaven to earth after his ascension.

[Revelation 12:7~9] A war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels were fighting against the dragon and its angels. But the dragon lost the battle. It and its angels were forced out of their places in heaven and were thrown down to the earth. Yes, that old snake and his angels were thrown out of heaven! That snake, who fools everyone on earth, is known as the devil and Satan.

The reason God built the earthly temple through Moses was to show what Joshua, the reality of the heavenly temple, would accomplish. Therefore, if you hand over all your sins to Satan, who is represented by Azazel's goat, and cast him out to the earth, the sacrifice for the forgiveness of all sins will end.

[Hebrews 10:18] When sins are forgiven, there is no more need to offer sacrifices.

The purpose of offering sacrifices in the earthly temple that Moses built is to forgive the sins of the people. And the other is the removal of sins from the temple.

Likewise, worship to God in spirit and in truth must fulfill the above purpose. When Yehoshua drove Satan from heaven to the earth, the forgiveness of the people's sins was completed through the complete forgiveness of sins. Therefore, the saint must fulfill the second purpose. The temple in the New Testament era refers to the saints who have received the Holy Spirit. Therefore, if we repent and do good deeds, the hearts of those who are born again will be purified.

The Holy Spirit of God comes upon the body of a repentant believer. And the word of God comes out of the boat and washes away the sins and defilements of the heart. It is an evil thought from the heart that defiles a person. Therefore, if you wash away sins in your heart with the Word of God that springs up from receiving the Holy Spirit, this becomes worship to God in spirit and in truth.
