As recorded in the book of Revelation, Armageddon shows great interest not only to the church, but also to those who do not believe in God. Armageddon is so popular that it was made into a movie because it was known as the site of the last war. So many biblical scholars have come up with various interpretations of Armageddon, but have not been able to find an accurate interpretation. So where is Armageddon? Armageddon refers to the highlands called Megiddo in northern Palestine. Megiddo has a wide plain, and many battles have been fought since ancient times. Megiddo is a plain 15 kilometers west of the Sea of Galilee.

The Bible prophesies that Satan and his army will gather all the kings of the world at Megiddo, also known as Armageddon, for a final war. To know the exact meaning of Megiddo, you need to study the Old Testament book of Joshua. After Israel was freed from Egypt, they lived in the wilderness for 40 years before they tore down the walls of Jericho that kept them out of the land of Canaan and entered the land of Canaan. But there were more than 30 kingdoms occupying the land, and God led them to conquer the land of Canaan by destroying them one by one.

When the various nations of Canaan were conquered by Israel, Jabin, king of Hashol, felt threatened and summoned the other nations to war. And the final war with Israel was fought in front of Lake Merom. In this regard, the Bible testifies that

[Joshua 11:1~5] When Jabin king of Hazor heard of this, he sent word to Jobab king of Madon, to the kings of Shimron and Acshaph, and to the northern kings who were in the mountains, in the Arabah south of Kinnereth, in the western foothills and in Naphoth Dor on the west; to the Canaanites in the east and west; to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites in the hill country; and to the Hivites below Hermon in the region of Mizpah. They came out with all their troops and a large number of horses and chariots—a huge army, as numerous as the sand on the seashore. All these kings joined forces and made camp together at the Waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.

Jabin, king of Hazael, gathered the other nations before Lake Merom in Canaan. But the number of soldiers gathered for war was as great as the sands of the sea. So where was the water of Merom where the final battle with Israel took place? The Sea of Merom is located 15 kilometers northwest of the Sea of Galilee.

The region of Merom refers to the area around the Sea of Galilee. This area consists of vast plains where hundreds of millions of troops could gather in one place. Therefore, Armageddon in Revelation refers to the plains around the Sea of Galilee. However, this was a prophecy of spiritual warfare, not physical warfare. As we have already seen, the seven trumpets prophesied in Revelation do not refer to actual plagues. The seven trumpets refer to plagues that befall a specific church, represented by Jericho. You can read more about this in the links below.

At the end of the prophecy of the seven trumpets, the prophecy of Armageddon is fulfilled. The people of God, chosen by the seven trumpets, will fight the false church throughout the world. Therefore, the seven plagues foretell the people of God fighting the false church throughout the world. Just as Israel fought the kingdom of Canaan after destroying the city of Jericho, so do the seven plagues. Therefore, the seven plagues prophesied the conquest of the land of Canaan. If you look closely at the seven plagues that God sends, you will see 40 kilograms of hail. And the sun was given power to burn people to death. But this was a prophecy of the conquest of Canaan.

[Revelation 16:8~21] The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was given power to scorch people with fire. They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him. ...(21) From the sky huge hailstones of about a hundred pounds each fell upon men. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible.

In the book of Joshua, when God conquered the Canaanites, he sent a great hailstorm to destroy them, so the book of Revelation is a spiritual fulfillment of the prophecy of the conquest of Canaan.

[Joshua 10:11] As they fled before Israel on the road down from Beth Horon to Azekah, the LORD hurled large hailstones down on them from the sky, and more of them died from the hailstones than were killed by the swords of the Israelites.

And it was also in the days of Joshua that the sun was empowered to burn people to death. If you look at the book of Joshua, God held back the sun and gave Israel the victory.

[Joshua 10:12~14] On the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the LORD in the presence of Israel: "O sun, stand still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon." So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a man. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel!

Therefore, the seven plagues prophesied in Revelation are spiritual plagues that fall on false churches around the world. Just as Joshua and Israel conquered Canaan, so the saints who receive the Holy Spirit after the ascension of the two witnesses are prophesied to fight the false churches of the world. And Armageddon, the gathering of kings for the final battle, does not refer to a specific place. All the tribes of Canaan gathered by the waters of Merom to fight Israel. Likewise, all the religions of the world will unite to fight alongside God's people, which is described as Armageddon. Therefore, the seven plagues are God's judgment on all the false churches of the world.
