Every year, as December 25th approaches, the Church of God posts harsh criticisms online, claiming that Christmas is not Jesus' birthday but a day of sun worship. However, most Christians acknowledge that the exact date of Jesus' birth is unknown, yet they still observe this day as a celebration of the Savior’s birth.

The Church of God distorts the meaning of Christmas, portraying all those who celebrate it as worshippers of the sun god. However, for many, Christmas is a deeply meaningful day that commemorates Jesus’ birth and His coming to save sinners. Connecting this celebration to sun worship is an overreach. It’s akin to claiming that commemorating Jesus' birth on Buddha’s birthday would somehow honor Buddha, which is clearly not the case. A coincidence in dates does not make all celebrations acts of sun worship.

While criticizing Christmas and labeling it as a day of sun worship, the Church of God lavishly celebrates the birthdays of its leaders, Ahn Sahng-hong and Zahng Gil-ja. This contradictory behavior makes it difficult for them to avoid accusations of hypocrisy, often summarized as “rules for thee, but not for me.”

Which is more meaningful: celebrating the birth of Jesus, who triumphed over death through His resurrection, or commemorating the birthday of Ahn Sahng-hong, who remains buried in a grave? Can celebrating Zahng Gil-ja’s birthday, despite her secret marriage to the married Ahn Sahng-hong, be considered more valuable than honoring the birth of Jesus, who died for the sins of humanity? The answer seems obvious to anyone with common sense.

The Church of God criticizes Christmas and spreads distorted claims to its members, yet their own practices reveal a glaring contradiction. Associating Jesus’ birth with sun worship while grandly celebrating the birthdays of Ahn Sahng-hong and Zahng Gil-ja undermines their credibility.

While many reflect on the message of salvation through the celebration of Christmas, members of the Church of God appear blind to the contradictions within their beliefs. There is a clear need for critical thinking and a genuine pursuit of true faith.
