The Church of God and the Baptism Controversy: A Question of Credibility

When members of the Church of God were questioned about why Ahn Sahng-hong claimed to have been baptized in 1948 despite evidence suggesting otherwise, they presented Ahn Sahng-hong's handwritten notes as proof. These notes allegedly record that he was baptized in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1948.

However, the Seventh-day Adventist Church strongly refutes this claim. They assert that Ahn Sahng-hong was actually baptized in 1954, a fact clearly supported by their membership records. Additionally, they clarified that their baptismal register for 1948 was never lost and that there was no pastor by the name of Lee Myung-deok in their church. These statements from the Adventist Church serve as a significant challenge to the Church of God's claims.

Despite this, members of the Church of God insist that the Seventh-day Adventist Church must reveal the baptismal register from 1948. However, demanding the disclosure of non-existent records is logically unconvincing and has been criticized as irrational, even from a legal perspective.

This controversy highlights the fragility of the Church of God's doctrinal foundation. While its members strive to defend their beliefs, persisting with claims that contradict objective evidence risks further damaging the credibility of the church.

Should this dispute escalate to a legal trial, which side would the court believe? Experts agree that arguments lacking objective evidence and logical grounding are unlikely to hold up in court.
