As already mentioned, Revelation 12, 13, 17, and 18 prophesied the history of the church and Satan from the time of Jesus to the end of the world. In Revelation 12, Satan is depicted as a red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, and after Jesus' resurrection and ascension, he was expelled from heaven and cast down to earth. Later, when Satan learned of his expulsion, he came after the saints, who were likened to women, to kill them, but they spent one, two, and half a time in a place prepared by God.

[Revelation 12:13~14] And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

In the Bible, God's temple, kingdom, and church all refer to people who have received the Holy Spirit, and in Jesus' parables, the woman who conceived and the woman who gave birth to the child are both references to people who have received the Holy Spirit. Satan, cast out of heaven, sought to kill the saints who had received the Holy Spirit, but God sheltered them in His wings, fulfilling the prophecy that one lamp would always remain among the sons of David.

[2 Chronicles 21:7] Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.

Since Jesus came according to David's prophecy and the history of Israel from David foretold the history of spiritual Israel (the church) from Jesus, the spiritual David, onward, the promise of an everlasting light among David's descendants was to show that after Jesus, those who received the Holy Spirit would be preserved like an unquenchable lamp.

The saints who have received the Holy Spirit flee to the wilderness to escape the serpent (Satan) and hide for a time, and times, and half a time, which is the same as the period of power of the first little horn prophesied in Daniel 7. In Daniel 7, the first little horn emerges from the beast that comes out of the sea, which foreshadows the Catholicism that emerges after the division of Rome into 10 nations. After being expelled from heaven, Satan founded a religious organization called the Catholic Church, and then killed and harassed God's people through the Inquisition and witch hunts. But the saints who have received the Holy Spirit will escape the serpent's pursuit and live for a time, two times, and half a time. But the saints who receive the Holy Spirit escape the serpent's pursuit for three and a half years, or 1260 years, analogized as one time, two times, and half a time. The Bible interprets a day as a year, so 1260 days would be 1260 years. The prophetic period of 1260 years will be discussed in more detail in subsequent parts.

Then Satan poured out rivers of water from his mouth to kill the woman, but the earth helped the woman and swallowed the water that the serpent poured out.

[Revelation 12:15~16] And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

So what does the flood poured out by the serpent mean? It doesn't refer to actual water, but to the multitude of doctrines that Satan has created. Just as rivers of living water flow from the bellies of those who have received God's Holy Spirit, so the serpent produces a multitude of doctrines that pervert the Word of God, which is depicted by the rivers poured out by the serpent. It is a deception to kill the souls of God's people that Satan has perverted the Word of God to create so many doctrines. Thus, when we say that the serpent poured out a river of water to kill the woman, we are referring to the numerous doctrines that Catholicism has created by perverting the Bible. But the earth helps the woman by swallowing the river that the snake vomited up, which is a metaphor for the Reformers who fought against Catholicism. In church history, many of the Reformers, who are likened to the ground, fought back by exposing the contradictions and illegitimacy of Catholic doctrine, which is figuratively recorded as the ground swallowing the water poured out by the serpent. The Catholic Church prepared for war to fight the Reformers, which the Bible described as "the war of the dragon and the remnant of the woman.

[Revelation 12:17~18] This made the dragon terribly angry with the woman. So it started a war against the rest of her children. They are the people who obey God and are faithful to what Jesus did and taught.  The dragon s) stood on the beach beside the sea.

So who won their war? As we've seen, Satan, who had been banished from heaven, founded a religious organization called the Catholic Church and spent 1260 years killing and tormenting people, but God's people, who had received the Holy Spirit, were protected by God and continued in the faith. Thus, the Reformers who fought against Catholicism become the remnant descendants of the woman, and the remnant descendants of the woman have a final battle with the serpent, the outcome of which is prophesied in detail in chapter 13.
