The Church of God claims that the day begins in the morning when the sun rises. Their simplistic assertion is based on a misunderstanding of the Bible verse, "There was evening and there was morning, and this is the first day." Because God created light (day) out of darkness (night), the beginning of the day begins in the night (evening) and ends in the day (morning).

Also, by the Church of God's sunrise standard, Jesus' resurrection took place on two days, not three. According to the Bible, Jesus died on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and was resurrected on Sunday at 5:00 a.m. However, if we calculate the date of Jesus' resurrection based on the Church of God's claimed sunrise, Jesus was resurrected on two days, not three. The Church of God holds its Easter service at 5 a.m. because Jesus rose from the dead at dawn. Therefore, their sunrise claim is false.
