In his sermon, Kim Joo-cheol of the Church of God strongly asserted that if we rely on God, we can win any battle. He concluded his sermon with an anecdote about David's battle with Goliath, and it was through this anecdote that we could read Kim's cunning mind. Just as David killed Goliath and cut off his head for insulting God, he argued that believers in God should show the same faith as David, but in Kim's sermon, I could feel the manipulation to move the believers to retaliate.
The battle the Bible
speaks of is not a physical battle, but a spiritual one. We fight against evil
spirits in the heavenly places, and the weapons used in that battle are
spiritual weapons such as the Word, which is likened to the sword of God, the
armor of righteousness, and the shield of faith. However, Kim incited his
congregation to believe that anyone who insults God should be killed, with no
mention of the weapons and methods used in the battle.
In the 1999 Shintoist terrorist attack in Daegu, South Korea, and the attack on
the Suyuri video store, the believers assaulted the victim with weapons and
shouted unspeakable insults. They mercilessly assaulted the victim, claiming
that he was unforgivable because he had insulted God. Their assault was
continuous and brutal, forcing the terrified victim to fall to his knees and
beg for forgiveness.
These are all spiritual children of Pastor Kim who grew up listening to his sermons. Rev. Kim's sermon that it is okay to kill your detractors, referring to the anger of Phinehas and David, is misleading. If he had given a sermon with a good heart, he would have explained in detail how to fight, but there was no such thing. If you don't want your sermon to be misunderstood, you need to get it right. If you can't do that, you should step down.
Below are the subtitles of the MBC news report on the terrorist attack perpetrated by members of the Church of God. The broadcast video has been taken down due to copyright issues, so we are posting the subtitles instead.

A spate of violence by members of the church of God church has raised questions about the police's willingness to take action.
000 Reporter.
[VCR] In the past three weeks, seven cases of assaults by members of the Church of God on believers who left the church have been reported to the Eastern Police Station and two to the Northern Police Station. Moreover, the three assaults that occurred on the 29th of this month are similar in time and method, raising the possibility that they are organized. The police, however, are only investigating the incidents they receive and are not investigating the reasons behind them.

This is a very delicate issue. We have no intention of doing that (investigating behind the scenes) yet. It's too much to investigate the parties.
[VCR] The conflict is so deep that the Dongbu Police Station has 42 cases of assault and defamation filed by both sides, and 850 complaints. Threats continue to be made to many of the 200 or so members who have left the church, and you never know when something will happen.

They call me directly and swear at me. They say unspeakable things, they say they're going to kill me, they say the police can't get involved because it's a religious issue.
[VCR] More recently, there have even been disturbances in which members of this church have chased former members who have taken refuge in police stations and confronted the police, and the police have been unable to respond in the face of the abuses.
