In 1985, the Church of God was plunged into turmoil after the death of its leader, Ahnsahnghong Ahn, and the church split into two factions: the Busan Church, where Ahnsahnghong's birthplace and wife were located, and the Seoul Church, led by Kim Joo-cheol and Jang Gil-ja. After Ahnsahnghong's death, Kim Joo-cheol sought to take the lead and installed Jang Gil-ja as Mother God. However, due to the opposition of the Busan Church and strong protests, it was canceled.

Three years before Ahnsahnghong's death, the Church of God experienced one major disturbance. An evangelist named Umsu-in claimed to be God the Mother. This led Ahnsahnghong to preach until his death that God the Mother did not exist. Those who claimed to be God the Mother were wicked people who had been deceived by Satan, Ahnsahnghong argued.

However, soon after Ahnsahnghong's death, Evangelist Kim Joo-cheol made Jang Gil-ja his mother. This caused great confusion in the church and there was a move to disfellowship Kim Joo-cheol. Feeling uneasy about this, Kim wrote a memorandum in his own handwriting as follows. However, he denies that he ever wrote such a memorandum. Therefore, an autograph examination was requested, and it was determined that it was written by Kim Joo-cheol. It seems that he denied the fact because he was afraid that the congregation would know that he had denied Jang Gil-jah's position. It is pathetic that such a person is the president of the General Assembly.

Dear Busan brothers and sisters, I am deeply sorry as the representative president that such disturbances have occurred in this church, which was founded with the blood of the teacher who came to this earth in the flesh, and that the hearts of all the members have become lost and wandering. Therefore, from now on, let us be saints who devote ourselves exclusively to evangelism for the mission to "arise and shine (Isaiah 60:1)" with quiet hearts, and be loyal to the point of death in absolute obedience to the will of God (the teaching of Ahnsahnghong, who claimed that there is no female God).

1. Evangelist Jang Gil-ja does not want to be idolized and we cannot idolize him.

2. The president of the General Conference (Kim Joo-cheol) does not want to be idolized, and we (the saints) cannot idolize the president of the General Conference.
