The Church of God worships a woman named Jang Gil-jah as God the Mother. However, many believers do not know the details of how Lady Zhang lived and how she became a mother goddess. Born in Gyeonggi Province in 1943, Jang Gil-ja was twenty-four years old when she married Kim Jae-hoon, two years her senior, in 1966, and they lived happily ever after, having one son and one daughter in Yongdap-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul.

He was evangelized by an elder named Noh and attended the Church of God in Dapsimni, Dongdaemun. Jang Gil-ja's husband, Kim, also joined the Church of God and served as an elder deacon, becoming a member of Pastor Ahnsahnghong's entourage and an important member of the church's promotion committee. Because of Jang Gil-jah's vigorous religious activities, Pastor Ahn Sang-hong was fond of him, and the two families developed a mutual friendship through neighborly visits.

Jang divorced her husband, Kim, in 1983, and Kim detailed her reasons for divorcing Jang in her autobiography. According to Kim's autobiography, Jang Gil-jah went on evangelistic trips to various provinces with Pastor Ahn for over a week, and unilaterally sold the house that Kim had saved through hard labor and gave it all to Pastor Ahn. In response, Kim reprimanded Jang Gil-jah for his wrong behavior and admonished him to go the right way, but Jang Gil-jah refused to listen to Kim and demanded a divorce.

After divorcing Kim Jae-hoon in 1983, Jang Gil-ja married Pastor Ahn Sang-hong in a secret ceremony less than a year later, and Kim Joo-cheol used a photo of their wedding to proclaim Jang Gil-ja as his mother goddess. When they tied the knot, Ahn Sang-hong was in a common-law relationship with Hwang, but they had a secret wedding without Hwang's knowledge, an action that would be condemned by the worldly standards. 

The Bible says that God hates divorce and that if one puts away his husband or wife without fornication, he has committed fornication. However, Jang Gil-jah of the Church of God divorced Kim without any evidence that Kim had committed adultery, and Pastor Ahn Sang-hong had a secret wedding with Jang Gil-jah while in a common-law relationship with Hwang, both of which are criminalized by the Bible. Jang's husband, Kim, developed cirrhosis of the liver and other complications due to the trauma of the divorce, and was forced to move from boarding house to boarding house, but he could not give up his life for his children.

Kim said that if we went to the church to see the children, it would put us in an awkward position because their mother had spread rumors that their father was dead. The daughter born to Jang Gil-jah and Kim is now an adult and takes care of Kim, and the apartment in Pohang where Kim lives is also listed as being provided by Jang Gil-jah's daughter. Many people around her were deeply hurt by her desire to go from being an ordinary housewife to being God. No matter how much she dresses up to appear holy, she is just a man's wife and a mother of two.

Worshipping a woman like this as a god is blasphemy against God.
