For two years, the Kookmin Ilbo has been investigating a lawsuit filed by the World Mission Society of the Church of God (formerly the Ahnsahnghong Witness Society) for 640 million won in damages. The biggest achievement in this process was the discovery that the Church of God is a time-bound apocalyptic society. When members are drawn into a cult's time-bound eschatology, they are more likely to give away property, run away from home, get divorced, and give up school, work, or parenting. There is no point in living a normal life if the end of the world is imminent.

The Church of God has repeatedly shouted at its members that the world is coming to an end, but has denied that it has ever presented a time-bound eschatology. In a lawsuit with the Kookmin Ilbo, the church also denied that it had ever done so. If their history of shouting doomsday prophecies is revealed, they could be labeled as an antisocial religious group in Korean society and face numerous lawsuits from their members.

That's why the Church of God hired a leading law firm, LKB & Partners, to represent it in the appeal.

However, a three-judge panel of the Supreme Court (Chief Justice Kim Shin) affirmed the original ruling, stating that the Church of God "presented a time-bound eschatology by suggesting the end of the world in 1988, 1999, and 2012." "As the Supreme Court ruled, the Church of God is an anti-social religious group that claims a time-bound eschatology," said Heo Ho-ik, a professor at Daejeon Theological Seminary. "Time-bound eschatology is manifested in a deviant life of giving up family, work, and studies, and leads to the collapse of social order, so we must be vigilant and criticize it."
