Four lone protesters accused of criticizing the Church of God in front of the Church of God World Mission Society (formerly the Ahnsahnghong Witness Society) were all acquitted. Judge Bae Kwan-jin of the Uijeongbu District Court's Criminal Division 7 said on Jan. 31 that he acquitted the four lone protesters because "freedom of religious criticism is strongly protected under the Constitution and it is difficult to see the expressions of the end of the world, crises such as runaways and divorce, property dedication, and child abuse related to the Church of God as false facts.“

In April 2014, Kim Mo (45), Kang Mo (42), Cho Mo (49), and Seo Mo (41), victims of the Church of God, were charged by prosecutors with defamation for chanting slogans and holding pickets in front of the Church of God in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, saying, "Because of the Church of God, which chanted the doomsday theory, numerous damages such as divorce, runaway, property dedication, and child abuse are occurring one after another. The Court stated that "speech and publication for religious purposes enjoys a higher level of protection than other forms of speech and publication," and that "the right to criticize must be given the greatest possible protection, especially when it is for the purpose of informing others about the content of one's religious doctrines and criticizing other religions.“

"Four members of the Church of God entered Lee's house, tied Lee's wrists, legs, and chest, assaulted him, and injured him after he left the Church of God and went around slandering people," he said. He also injured Lee's 4-year-old son and abused him, including tying his wrists and gagging him. The court also said that the Church of God's time-bound eschatology is hard to see as a falsehood, noting that "the Church of God produced a tract in 1988 after the death of Ahnsahnghong Ahn in 1985, and conducted a survey of its members in 1999 regarding Y2K and the 1999 global doomsday predictions.“

"Within the Church of God, claims were made that the end of the world would come in 2012, and current affairs programs such as KBS, MBC, and SBS tried to cover and report on the Church of God's doomsday theories," he said, adding, "People who claimed to have been harmed by the Church of God's doomsday theories formed a group of victims' husbands."
