On the afternoon of the 27th, the Victims of the Church of God (Hapimo) filed a complaint with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office against Jang Gil-ja (74), who is revered as "Mother God" by the World Mission Society of the Church of God, and Kim Joo-cheol, the general president of the Church of God, for fraud.

In a press conference preceding the filing of the complaint, Hapimo said, "We are suing the Church of God for its ongoing practice of time-limited doomsday fraud."

"The fraudulent activities of Zhang Gilja and Kim Joo-Cheol have led to numerous victims in China, Singapore, Mongolia, and the U.S. Victims' groups have been formed, and U.S. media outlets have reported numerous cases of home destruction, calling for caution.“

"Jang Gil-ja and Kim Joo-cheol extorted the property of numerous believers by preaching a time-bound apocalypse with dates of 1988, 1999, and 2012 for the purpose of increasing their wealth," the Church of God victims, including co-presidents Hapimo Seo Young-geun and Kim Yong-han, alleged.

Questions have also been raised about the Church of God's "purchase of church buildings.

"Jang Gil-jah and Kim Joo-cheol, who proclaimed the end of the world in 2012, purchased 90 church buildings, worth about 700 billion won, from 2012 to 2016," Hapimo said, adding, "Rather than apologizing for their deception and exploitation of the faithful, they are publicizing it.“

"We are filing a complaint to hold Jang Gil-jah and Kim Joo-cheol accountable for their fraudulent behavior and the harm they caused," he said, calling for a sanctuary-free investigation.

The complaint filed by the Church of God Victims Group to the Supreme Prosecutor's Office is reportedly 300 pages long, including recordings of key figures from the Church of God and related evidence.

The complaint was filed with the Criminal Division 1 of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office.
