[The following is an excerpt from the testimony of Rev. Kim Jung-wook, a former member of the Church of God. I'm posting this because I think you can see how the Church of God manipulates its members].

Mr. General President, The Church of God has been conducting solid evangelistic activities based on the saints' firm belief in the end times, and the development of the Church in just 20 years, since about 1990, has been truly remarkable. From not owning a single church building, insisting on renting, and looking only to heaven, our church has built the Jerusalem Temple in Imae-dong, Bundang, the General Assembly Hall in Sunae-dong, Bundang, purchased tens of thousands of square meters of Elohim Training Center and Okcheon Training Center, and built or purchased church buildings in cities across the country. We have 200,000 members in attendance, 1.7 million baptized members, more than 2,000 churches in more than 100 countries around the world, annual church offerings estimated to exceed 200 billion won, and church-owned real estate worth trillions of won.

It was an amazing development, unprecedented in the history of religion. And the General Assembly was really a great work of God. I think everything that happened from 1985 to 2012 was the fulfillment of God's prophecy and the work of God. It was the work of True Mother under the leadership of the General Assembly. Of course, it was made possible by the blood and sweat of many members and former members, and the driving force of spiritual faith came from the realization of True Mother's existence, the eagerness to enter the glory of the one hundred and forty-four thousand, and the belief in the great prophecy of the completion of the temple construction in 2012. Of course, the proselytizing of the General Assembly was a strong support for this.

I can't help but think of one example of his extraordinary leadership in instilling faith in his members. It was in the early days of the movement, around 1995. At a time when the number of baptized members had not exceeded 50,000, we were all moved by his conviction that "if we evangelize and baptize only four people per person, we can reach 144,000." "Let's quickly finish the last gospel work this year and go to heaven." Party members and members across the country realized that they could finish the gospel work in one year and go to heaven, and the church achieved amazing results that year.

When the number of baptisms finally reached 140,000, the president's sermon changed. The goal changed from baptisms to Passover attendance, and when Passover attendance reached 140,000, it changed again to 144,000 Sabbath attendance. Then the goal changed to 144,000 members attending at least four times a month. The reason the saints didn't find it strange that the goal changed from time to time was because the great prophecy of 2012 remained. For us, 2012 was coming. As the church developed and grew, the saints became more zealous in their faith and gathered their hearts and minds together.......

General President Haona!

Since the year 2000, there have been contradictions in the General President's sermons and church management policies that are difficult to understand and do not make sense to the beliefs of the above members. We have been wondering what kind of mind the General President had when he preached and led the General Assembly over the 'one hundred and forty-four thousand' and the 'Great Prophecy of 2012'...

In 2009, a pastor called the general president. It was probably just before the general conference. "The church wants to teach the saints about Ahnsahnghong Ahnsahng's Great Prophecy of 2012 through the prophecy of the building of the temple, is that okay?" At the time, the movie "2012," which was released in late 2008, was all the rage, and our church was encouraging all officers to make group reservations to see the movie. Naturally, the congregation assumed that the church had the 2012 prophecy in mind when it encouraged group viewings. However, some of the pastors were unhappy that the church was taking a detour by taking people to see the movie without teaching them about Ahnsahnghong Ahn's prophecy for 2012. Apparently, the pastor who questioned the General President felt the same way, because I heard that the General President rebuked the pastor and told him that he was too ignorant to know God's will, that he should never preach (publicly) or teach a study on the 2012 prophecy, and that the reason he should do so was not because he didn't believe in the 2012 prophecy, but because he needed to save more souls while avoiding unnecessary disturbance and persecution in the world...

The year 2012 has finally come to a close and it is now May 2013, but many of you are heartbroken by the lack of explanation for the unfulfilled end times. The great prophecy of the completion of the building of the temple in the heavenly Jerusalem in 2012 has been a pillar of faith for our members and has helped shape the Church into what it is today. However, the actions of our General Authorities to date have been nothing short of disappointing.......

The problem with the 2012 prophecy is that we are placing all the blame on the members, saying that the reason it is not being fulfilled and delayed is not because our interpretation is wrong, nor is it because the General Conference is misleading the members, but because the members lack faith and are not of perfect character.
