[Question and Answer]

1. The issue of the Passover in Church History

Hanfimo Member's Question: In church history, it is recorded that Jesus died on the 14th of Nisan in the Jewish calendar at 3 p.m., and the Last Supper was held on the evening of the 13th of Nisan. However, the Church of God claims that Jesus died on the 15th of Nisan, not the 14th, and they also celebrate His resurrection on the third day. How do you explain this contradiction, considering that the Eastern Church, based on church history, celebrated the Last Supper and resurrection differently from the Church of God?

Church of God Elder's Answer: Church history is written by humans, so it cannot be fully trusted. It contains both factual and non-factual content. Our church focuses on the Bible, and we don't fully rely on church history. History is recorded from the perspective of the victorious side, so some things are correct, and some things are wrong. Therefore, we shouldn't judge the Eastern Church's practices based on church history.

2. Why Did the Jews Walk Around if the Last Supper Was the Passover?

Hanfimo Member's Question: According to the Old Testament law, the Passover was observed from the evening of the 14th of Nisan, where the Jews would gather and eat lamb until the next morning. The remaining meat had to be burned, and that was the end of the Passover. But in John 18, it is recorded that the Jews followed Jesus around all night and only refrained from entering Pilate’s house in the morning, not to defile themselves, so why were they not observing the Passover? If the Last Supper was indeed the Passover, why didn’t the Jews follow the Passover rituals?

Church of God Elder's Answer: Why are you asking me? Ask the Jews!

3. Jesus' Words About Dying on the Passover

Hanfimo Member's Question: In Matthew 26:2, Jesus said, "After two days, it will be the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified." Does this not mean that Jesus died on the Passover? Are you denying this passage?

Church of God Elder's Answer: Was that said? I didn't know that...

Conclusion: The Church of God does not understand the full context of the Bible and often selectively interprets verses. Their teachings on the Passover and the Last Supper do not align with the historical and scriptural context. The Bible clearly shows that Jesus' death and resurrection were in line with the original Jewish Passover tradition, and the practice of the Church of God deviates from the true biblical teachings. The level of understanding of the Church of God leaders on biblical matters appears to be quite limited.
