A member of Hanpimo had a Bible discussion with senior elders of the Church of God in front of the Pangyo headquarters of the Church of God on November 10 regarding the Passover. Below is the shared discussion:
Hanpimo Question:
Church history records that Jesus died on the 14th day of the 1st month (Passover) at 3 p.m. according to the Jewish calendar. Therefore, the Last Supper would have taken place on the evening of the 13th day. Doesn’t this make the Church of God’s claim that Jesus died on the 15th day incorrect?
Church of God Elder’s Answer:
Church history was written by people, so it cannot be trusted.
Conclusion:
The Church of God uses church history to claim that the Passover was abolished at the Council of Nicaea. However, based on their response, church history itself cannot be trusted either. Isn’t this contradictory?
Hanpimo Question:
According to Old Testament law, the Passover was observed on the evening of the 14th day of the 1st month by staying indoors, eating lamb, and burning any leftover meat by morning. This completed the Passover rituals.
The Church of God claims that the Last Supper Jesus held with His disciples was the Passover. However, in John 18, it is recorded that the Jews followed Jesus’ trial through the night and, by morning, refused to enter Pilate’s headquarters to avoid defiling themselves so they could eat the Passover meal.
If the Last Supper was indeed the Passover, why didn’t the Jews observe the Passover and instead spent the night following Jesus? Also, why had they not yet eaten the Passover meal by morning?
Church of God Elder’s Answer:
Why are you asking me? Ask the Jews!!
Conclusion:
The Jews spent the night attending Jesus’ trial because that day was not the Passover. In John 19, it is stated that after Jesus died on the cross, the Jews observed the Passover that night.
Hanpimo Question:
In Matthew 26:2, Jesus says, “After two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.” This clearly indicates that Jesus died on the Passover. Do you deny this statement?
Church of God Elder’s Answer:
Did He really say that? I didn’t know...
Conclusion:
The Church of God selectively studies parts of the Bible without considering the context. This demonstrates their lack of understanding of the Scriptures. Spiritually, the biblical knowledge of the Church of God is equivalent to that of a toddler aged 3–6.
