The Church of God claims that the new name of Jesus mentioned in Revelation 3:12 refers to their leader, Ahn Sahng-hong. However, this claim demonstrates a lack of understanding of the Bible. The concept of the new name of Jesus first appears during the Last Supper. Jesus spoke of the coming of the Spirit of Truth after His departure, and this Spirit of Truth is the new name of Jesus mentioned in Revelation 3.

However, contrary to the Church of God’s claims, the Spirit of Truth does not come in the flesh under a different name. Instead, He comes in the same name, Jesus, and dwells within believers spiritually, not physically.

[John 14:26]
"But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."

[John 14:17]
"He is the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you."

Thus, the Spirit of Jesus, referred to as the Holy Spirit, dwelt within the bodies of early church believers, teaching them and spreading the gospel through their mouths.

[Acts 16:6–7]
"Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them."

What, then, is the new name of Jesus mentioned in Revelation 3?
In Revelation 3:12, Jesus states that He will give His new name to those who overcome. However, this does not refer to a literal name but symbolizes the Holy Spirit dwelling in believers under the metaphor of the "new name of Jesus."

[Revelation 3:12]
"I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name."

Furthermore, believers who receive the Holy Spirit are established as God's temple, the heavenly New Jerusalem. As such, they are referred to by the new name of God.

[1 Corinthians 3:16]
"Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?"

[Isaiah 62:1–2]
"For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet... Nations will see your vindication, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow."

Conclusion:
The new name of Jesus mentioned in Revelation 3 is a metaphorical expression referring to believers who receive the Holy Spirit and are established as God’s temple. It is not a literal name tied to a specific person like Ahn Sahng-hong, as claimed by the Church of God.
