Ahn Sahng-hong, the leader of the Church of God, claimed that Jesus died on the Feast of Unleavened Bread because the firstborn of Egypt died on the night of Passover and their funerals were held on the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
He interpreted that since all the firstborn of Egypt died during the night of Passover and their funerals were conducted the next day, on the Feast of Unleavened Bread, Jesus also died and was buried following the customs of the Egyptian firstborn.
Based on this, the Church of God asserts that Jesus had to die on the Feast of Unleavened Bread. However, this claim contradicts the teachings of the Bible. Jesus came to fulfill the prophecy of the firstborn of Israel, not Egypt. According to the Bible, the firstborn of Egypt perished on the night of Passover, but the firstborn of Israel were spared through God's protection (Exodus 12). Therefore, there was no need for funerals for the firstborn of Israel.
The Church of God claims that Jews followed Egyptian traditions by executing people and conducting funerals on the Feast of Unleavened Bread. However, this is an ignorant interpretation with no biblical basis. Jewish festivals and customs were not based on Egyptian traditions but were established by God's command. Jesus' death was in accordance with Old Testament prophecies and God's redemptive plan, having no connection to the death or funerals of the Egyptian firstborn.
Such erroneous interpretations stem from a lack of understanding of the Bible's context and God's redemptive history.
