During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Illegal Worship Services at the World Mission Society Church of God
In 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) faced a notable incident during their spring feasts. While the government had imposed strict bans on in-person religious gatherings to prevent the spread of the virus, the WMSCOG secretly held services during their feast days, only to be caught and publicly disgraced.
The situation came to light when a victim and member of the protest group, aware of the church's illegal worship activities, staged a demonstration in front of one of their locations, holding a banner demanding a halt to their gatherings. Instead of halting their activities, the WMSCOG reported the protester to the police, inadvertently exposing their own unlawful worship practices.
A Comedy of Errors
Ordinary criminals tend to conceal their wrongdoing, but the WMSCOG, in a bizarre twist, reported the protester instead. This baffling behavior suggests either a lack of social awareness or a level of mental conditioning so severe that it has dulled their perception of right and wrong.
A Similar Incident at Pangyo Headquarters
A similar story reportedly unfolded at the WMSCOG's Pangyo headquarters. One senior leader, unhappy with sparse attendance, insisted on holding early morning services despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. Members from affiliated churches were pressured to attend in person, even if they lived far away.
Some members had to drive drowsily for 30 minutes or more to attend, despite living just five minutes away from another WMSCOG location. The senior leader’s insistence on attending their “designated church” shows a blatant disregard for the members’ well-being, prioritizing authority over safety.
The Cost of Blind Obedience
For a ten-day period, services were held at 5 a.m., forcing members to wake up at least an hour earlier, with some rising as early as two hours beforehand to prepare for their long drives. The exhaustion only grew as the days went on.
It’s disheartening to imagine the sacrifices these members made, enduring physical and mental strain to attend services, only to find themselves exploited. Far from achieving spiritual enlightenment or salvation, they are being misled by deceit.
Questioning the Practice of Early Morning Services
One must ask why early morning services, which have no scriptural basis, are enforced. Members of the WMSCOG should reflect on this practice and consider whether it aligns with the teachings they hold dear—or if it’s simply another tool of control.
