[Below is an excerpt from a conversation between "Observer" (pseudonym), who was ranked 7th in the hierarchy of the World Mission Society Church of God, and Pastor Woo Won-gwang, who was favored by Ahn Sahng-hong. It reveals actions taken by Jang Gil-ja and Kim Joo-cheol after Ahn Sahng-hong suffered a stroke.]

Observer: What exactly happened that day? You mentioned that on the evening of February 24, 1985, people from Seoul arrived at Maryknoll Hospital.

Pastor W: The elders in Busan were completely unprepared for such an event. By the evening, the teacher (Ahn Sahng-hong) was still receiving emergency treatment at the hospital. I noticed that Kim Joo-cheol and Evangelist Jang Gil-ja arrived at the hospital late that evening. When they asked me questions, I suggested they speak with the doctor.

Observer: So, he was still alive at that point?

Pastor W: Yes, but after collapsing earlier that day, he remained unconscious and unable to speak. The doctor said there was no hope. Upon hearing this, Evangelist Jang Gil-ja called Kim Joo-cheol aside in the hospital corridor to discuss the situation. I overheard their conversation.

Observer: What were they discussing?

Pastor W: I happened to be in the corridor and overheard everything. They were panicking, saying this was a big problem. They had taught the congregation that they would ascend to heaven with the teacher in 1988 when the world would end. Now, they were worried about what would happen if the teacher passed away suddenly. Evangelist Jang told Kim to return to Seoul immediately to manage the situation. Kim left for Seoul that very night and did not return to Busan until after the funeral was over.

Pastor W: I later learned that in Seoul, they had been emphasizing doomsday teachings very strongly. They must have been teaching something different. That night, they were so alarmed that Kim was sent back to Seoul immediately. They had created an atmosphere of certainty about the 1988 end times and the teacher's ascension with them. His sudden passing created a significant issue. Sending Kim back to Seoul was a way to stabilize the congregation and avoid further problems.

Observer: I heard directly from Kim Joo-cheol that the teacher passed on his ceremonial robe to him and instructed him to serve Evangelist Jang as the "Mother." Kim claimed that this was a secret will delivered in Seoul before the teacher left for Busan. He said he only later realized this meant the teacher was preparing for his departure. Evangelist Jang, however, claimed she knew in advance about his passing but could not share it with Kim due to its confidentiality.

Pastor W: Does that even make sense? On February 24, when they arrived in Busan, their conversation revealed their worries about the teacher's passing. Evangelist Jang was visibly concerned about the consequences. If there had been a secret will or some forewarning, Kim wouldn’t have preached about ascending with the teacher in 1988, and Jang wouldn’t have let him continue those sermons.

Observer: True. Evangelist Jang’s actions—sending Kim to Seoul out of worry and panic—contradict her later claims. She later fabricated a story, saying she sent Kim to retrieve a photograph that proved the teacher entrusted her with the church. In reality, she sent him to manage the congregation and cover things up.

Pastor W: If it was just about retrieving a photo, Kim would have returned to Busan the next day. But he didn’t come back until after the funeral was over. It’s clear that her claims are lies.
