The title itself may seem provocative and irreverent, but this reflects my experience as a member of the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG). During my time in this church—spanning the Gwanak Church, Gangseo Church, and even overseas missions—I was subjected to lies both big and small, woven into my faith journey.

I joined in 1998 and lived through major events like Y2K, the Yeonpyeong Naval Battle, and the 2012 doomsday prophecy. Looking back, these moments reveal the deceptive schemes of WMSCOG, filled with baseless claims that I naively believed.

Phrases like “The time is near” or “You can hear the Father’s footsteps” were often used to pressure members when doubts crept in or faith weakened. These statements were empty and manipulative.

When prophecies or timelines caused unease, the blame was conveniently shifted to the members:
“It’s because our children lack faith.”
“It’s because of their poor conduct and character.”

Everything was pinned on the members, painting them as the root cause of failure.

But what kind of parent places the blame for everything on their children? True parents feel the pain of their children’s mistakes as if they were their own. Yet in WMSCOG, when things didn’t go as predicted, the “children”—the members—were always at fault. Members were forced to accept absurd beliefs like the “Jubilee Year” and, when nothing happened, were met with responses like, “I never said that,” or “I never told you to do that.”

This lack of accountability, combined with the deceitful actions of “Mother God,” the General Assembly Chairman, and their inner circle, left me disillusioned. I finally decided to leave this hypocritical and manipulative organization.

The constant lies and irresponsibility of WMSCOG leaders, cloaked in a façade of faith, pushed me to sever ties with the church boldly. It was a step I’ll never regret.
