Analysis of Zahng Gil-ja and the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG): A Biblical and Historical Examination

1. Violation of God’s Command on Divorce

In Malachi 2:16, God clearly declares,
"I hate divorce," emphasizing His disapproval of such actions.

However, Zahng Gil-ja divorced her husband, Mr. Kim.
According to Mr. Kim’s testimony, Zahng repeatedly insisted that their divorce was "God’s will," ultimately leading to the dissolution of their marriage.

At the time, Zahng worshipped Ahn Sahng-hong as God. If she truly represented "Mother God," she would not contradict God’s command against divorce.

2. Violation of the Commandment Against Coveting

Exodus 20:17 commands,
"You shall not covet your neighbor's wife or husband."

Despite this, Zahng Gil-ja married Ahn Sahng-hong, who was still legally married at the time.

Ahn’s divorce was not finalized before their union, making their actions a direct violation of the Ten Commandments. Someone who disregards God’s laws cannot claim to be "Mother God."

3. Zahng Gil-ja’s Deification Through a Church Meeting

Following Ahn Sahng-hong’s death in 1985, power struggles arose within the WMSCOG.

Zahng Gil-ja was proclaimed "Mother God" through a church meeting led by Kim Joo-cheol and his family.
Her deification was not based on divine revelation but on human decisions.

This reveals her status as a man-made deity rather than a true God. Divinity cannot be decided through a vote.

4. Repeated False Predictions of Doomsday

Zahng Gil-ja made several doomsday predictions:

  • 1988, 1999, and 2012 were all years she claimed the world would end. None of these prophecies came true.
  • When confronted, she denied making these predictions, despite documented evidence.

Courts ruled against the WMSCOG, confirming that critics who highlighted her false prophecies were truthful.

According to Deuteronomy 18:22,
"When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD and the thing does not happen, that prophet has spoken presumptuously." Zahng’s repeated failures clearly identify her as a false prophet.

5. Heavenly Ascension Claims and Doctrinal Changes

The WMSCOG once taught that Zahng Gil-ja would ascend to heaven with her followers, incorporating this claim into songs and teachings.

As she aged, the church revised its doctrine to state, “She is God whether alive or dead.”
This echoes Ahn Sahng-hong’s failed prediction that he would ascend in 1988 before dying unexpectedly in 1985. Zahng appears poised to follow the same fate.

6. Distortions About the Passover and the Last Supper

The WMSCOG claims that observing the Passover is a sign of salvation and uses it to deify Ahn Sahng-hong and Zahng Gil-ja.

However:

  • The Bible states that the true sign of Christ is His resurrection and ascension, also known as the "sign of Jonah" (Matthew 12:39-40).
  • The Passover is a shadow of Old Testament rituals and distinct from the Last Supper.

Zahng fails to meet the biblical qualifications of Christ’s identity.

7. Misinterpretation of Genesis and God’s Image

The WMSCOG misinterprets Genesis 1:27, claiming that God exists as male and female because humanity was created in "His image."

However, this passage symbolically represents the spiritual relationship between Christ and His followers:

  • Adam’s deep sleep symbolizes Christ’s death.
  • The creation of Eve and their union symbolize Christ’s resurrection and His unity with believers.

The WMSCOG disregards these deeper spiritual meanings.

8. Misrepresentation of the Term "Elohim"

The WMSCOG claims that the plural Hebrew term "Elohim" proves the existence of male and female gods.

In reality:

  • "Elohim" is used in the Bible to refer to angels or people who receive God’s Spirit (Psalm 82:6).
  • Even pagan gods are referred to as "Elohim" because they were often associated with fallen angels (Daniel 10:20-21).

The WMSCOG’s interpretation is unbiblical and misleading.

9. The Church’s Corrupt Fruits

Jesus taught,
"A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit." (Matthew 7:18)

The WMSCOG has produced the following harmful outcomes:

  • Doomsday Fraud: Misleading members with repeated false predictions (Court Case No. 2015na2032729).
  • Family Destruction: Encouraging divorce and estrangement through its teachings (Court Case No. 2016gahap207016).
  • Organized Violence: Over 100 members attacked former members, an incident widely reported by MBC News (Court Case No. 2015no542).

These actions demonstrate that the WMSCOG is a corrupt organization.

Conclusion

Based on biblical standards, Zahng Gil-ja cannot be God.

  • She violated the Ten Commandments, made false prophecies, and distorted biblical truths.
  • The WMSCOG uses deceptive teachings to manipulate followers, causing familial and societal harm.

It is crucial to recognize these errors and seek the true gospel of Jesus Christ, grounded in resurrection, ascension, and grace.
