1. The Unbiblical Claims of the World Mission Society Church of God
The World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) claims that its leaders, Ahn Sahng-hong and Jang Gil-ja, are respectively the “Holy Spirit” and the “Bride,” presenting them as absolute objects of faith for their members. However, such claims are completely inconsistent with the original meaning of Scripture. The “Holy Spirit” and the “Bride” testified by the Bible have a meaning entirely different from the doctrines of WMSCOG.

2. The Holy Spirit Is the Spirit of the Risen Jesus
Jesus foretold His death and resurrection and promised that, after His resurrection, He would dwell within believers as the Holy Spirit.

[John 14:17–20] “...He is the Spirit of truth... He lives with you and will be in you... Soon the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me... On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”

This clearly shows that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the resurrected Jesus. The Holy Spirit is not physical, but the Spirit of the risen Lord, who indwells each believer.

3. The Bride Is the Community of Believers Who Have Received the Spirit
In the Bible, the “Bride” never refers to a single specific person. Instead, “Bride” is a symbolic expression for the community of believers who have received the Holy Spirit—that is, the church composed of all who believe in Jesus Christ.

[Ephesians 5:31–32] “...the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.”

Here, Paul explains that just as a husband and wife become one flesh in marriage, so also are Jesus and the church (the believers) deeply united through the Holy Spirit. The Bride of Christ is not a single woman or a specific leader, but the assembly of all who believe in Jesus and have received the Spirit.

4. The Mystery of God: Union Through the Holy Spirit
The “mystery of God” in Scripture does not refer to a doctrine or to a particular individual. Its essence is that the Spirit of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, personally dwells within every believer, uniting all Christians to God.

[Colossians 1:26–27] “...the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known... this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

This “mystery” is no longer external or possessed by a specific person. The Spirit of Christ dwells within all who believe in Jesus, and by this Spirit, believers are intimately united with God. The core of salvation and the goal of faith are not found in belonging to a certain leader or doctrine, but in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and union with Christ, resulting in true glory and hope. Thus, “God’s mystery” means the spiritual union achieved as the Holy Spirit indwells all believers and makes them one with Jesus Christ.

5. The Distortion and Danger of WMSCOG
WMSCOG commits a grave theological error by arbitrarily applying the terms “Holy Spirit and Bride” to its leaders. The Bible clearly teaches that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the risen Jesus, and the Bride is the community of believers born of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit never comes in the flesh, and no specific individual can be the key to salvation—this is the very essence of the gospel.

Conclusion: Return to the Essence of True Faith
WMSCOG’s claim of “Holy Spirit and Bride” is nothing but an unbiblical distortion of Scripture’s true meaning. According to the Bible, the “Holy Spirit” is the Spirit of the resurrected Christ, who dwells in believers and renews them as children of God. The “Bride” does not refer to a particular individual or leader but is a symbolic expression for the church—the community of all who believe in Jesus and have received the Spirit. Those who have received the Spirit are spiritually united with God and, together as the one body of Christ, enter a covenant relationship of love and obedience with Jesus. This union is not realized through idolizing a human leader or group, but through each believer’s deep union with Christ in the Spirit. Therefore, a true believer does not follow any human or particular individual, but is united with Jesus in the Holy Spirit and lives a life of love and truth. This is the very essence of the gospel as taught in Scripture, and it is the ultimate goal of Christian faith.
