The Claims of the World Mission Society Church of God

The World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) claims that their leaders, Ahn Sahng-hong and Zahng Gil-jah, are the Holy Spirit and the Bride, respectively. However, this claim lacks biblical foundation. According to Scripture, the Holy Spirit and the Bride carry entirely different meanings.

1. The Holy Spirit Is the Spirit of the Resurrected Jesus

Jesus foretold His death and resurrection to His disciples, promising that after His resurrection, He would dwell within believers as the Holy Spirit.

[John 14:17–20]

"The Spirit of truth... He lives with you and will be in you.
(v.20) On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you."

In this passage, Jesus clearly explains that the Holy Spirit is His Spirit, dwelling within believers after His resurrection. The Holy Spirit does not come in the flesh but dwells spiritually in the hearts of believers.

2. The Bride Refers to the Believers

In Scripture, the Bride does not refer to a single individual but symbolizes believers who have received the Holy Spirit. The Spirit unites with the saints, fulfilling God's plan.

[Ephesians 5:31–32]

"For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church."

This verse describes the relationship between Christ (Jesus, the Holy Spirit) and the Church (believers, the Bride) as that of a husband and wife becoming one. The Holy Spirit dwells within believers, enabling the union of Christ and the Church.

3. The Mystery of God: Unity Through the Holy Spirit

The "mystery of God" in Scripture refers to the spiritual union between Christ and believers through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit resides within believers, completing God's redemptive work.

[Colossians 1:26–27]

"The mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known... the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory."

This mystery does not refer to any individual or specific doctrine. It is the indwelling of Jesus’ Spirit (the Holy Spirit) in believers, signifying the completion of redemption.

4. Errors in the WMSCOG's Doctrine

The WMSCOG distorts the terms "Holy Spirit" and "Bride" by applying them to their leaders. However, Scripture affirms the following truths:

  • The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the resurrected Jesus.
  • The Bride represents believers who are reborn through the Holy Spirit.
  • The Holy Spirit does not come in the flesh but dwells within the hearts of believers, uniting with them spiritually.

Conclusion

The claims of the WMSCOG are unbiblical and misrepresent the teachings of Scripture. The Holy Spirit and the Bride do not refer to specific individuals. Instead, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the resurrected Jesus, and the Bride represents believers reborn through the Holy Spirit.

We must understand Scripture correctly and avoid distorting God's truth. True faith lies in uniting with Christ through the Holy Spirit and living a life of love and obedience to God's will.
