1. The Last Supper and the Passover Lamb
Yehoshua shared the Passover meal with His disciples, revealing Himself as the fulfillment of the Passover lamb.

  • Luke 22:15:

“I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.”

  • This was not merely a meal of bread and wine but a symbolic sharing of His body and blood as the true Passover Lamb.

2. Prophecy of the Passover Lamb and Yehoshua’s Fulfillment

(1) Requirements of the Passover Lamb

  • Spotless Male Lamb: The Passover lamb had to be without blemish, symbolizing the sinless Messiah.
  • 1 Peter 1:19:

“But with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

Yehoshua fulfilled this requirement as the sinless Lamb of God.

(2) Fulfillment of the Passover Timing

  • In the Old Testament, the Passover lamb was chosen on the 10th day of the first month and sacrificed on the 14th day at 3 PM.
  • Yehoshua entered Jerusalem five days before the Passover (on the 10th day) and was crucified on the 14th day at 3 PM.
  • John 19:31:

“Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath.”

(3) No Broken Bones

  • The Passover lamb’s bones were not to be broken (Exodus 12:46). Yehoshua’s bones were not broken, fulfilling this prophecy.
  • John 19:36:

“Not one of His bones will be broken.”

(4) Hyssop and the Blood Symbolism

  • The use of hyssop to apply the lamb’s blood on the doorposts foreshadowed Yehoshua’s sacrifice.
  • John 19:29-30:

“A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. When He had received the drink, Jesus said, ‘It is finished.’”

3. The Meaning of the Last Supper
At the Last Supper, Yehoshua offered bread and wine to His disciples as the true Passover meal.

  • Luke 22:19-20:

“This is My body given for you; do this in remembrance of Me… This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.”

This symbolizes not a mere ritual but a spiritual sharing in Yehoshua’s sacrifice, uniting believers with Him.

4. The Significance of the Passover Lamb and Freedom from Sin
Just as the Israelites were freed from Egypt by observing the Passover, Yehoshua’s sacrifice as the Passover Lamb liberates believers from the bondage of sin.

  • John 8:34:

“Everyone who sins is a slave to sin.”

  • 1 Corinthians 5:7-8:

“For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”

Paul reinterprets the Passover as a call to live a holy life free from sin.

5. A New Way Opened Through Yehoshua
Through His sacrifice, Yehoshua opened a new path to God.

  • Hebrews 10:19-20:

“We have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body.”

  • Believers, as God’s temple, become a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit.
  • 1 Corinthians 3:16:

“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?”

6. Errors in the WMSCOG’s Interpretation
The World Mission Society Church of God misinterprets the Last Supper, focusing on a literal observance of the Passover meal, ignoring its spiritual fulfillment.

(1) The Fulfillment of the Passover Lamb

  • Yehoshua, as the ultimate Passover Lamb, fulfilled the Law’s requirements through His sacrifice. There is no longer a need to observe the Passover as a legalistic ritual.

(2) The Meaning of Remembrance

  • The Last Supper is a call to remember Yehoshua’s sacrifice and to walk in His ways, emphasizing faith and repentance rather than adherence to Old Testament rituals.

7. Conclusion
The Last Supper marks Yehoshua’s fulfillment of all the prophecies surrounding the Passover Lamb and the opening of a new way to God.

  • The Fulfillment of the Passover Lamb: Yehoshua’s sacrifice completed the Old Testament prophecies.
  • A New Path: Through His sacrifice, believers are liberated from sin and can approach God directly.

True faith is not about observing legalistic rituals but about remembering Yehoshua’s sacrifice, embracing the Holy Spirit, and living a life of faith and repentance.
